Things You Should Know Before Moving Dogs and Cats to Singapore

Banned Pet Breeds

Restricted Dog and Cat Breeds

Singapore does NOT ALLOW the following dog and cat breeds:

  • Pit Bulls (Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully)
  • Mastiff Dogs (Brazilian Mastiff (Fila Brasileiro), Argentinian Mastiff (Dogo Argentino), Any Mastiff or Hybrid)
  • Tosa (Japanese Tosa or Hybrid)
  • Akita
  • Perro de Presa Canario and their crosses
  • Bengal Cat (unless it is a 5th generation cross)
  • Savannah Cat (unless it is a 5th generation cross)
  • Cats are NOT ALLOWED in Housing Development Board (HDB) residential units.

Singapore Import Requirements

Vaccinations, Tests, and Microchips

Dogs and cats must have an ISO compliant microchip before entering Singapore. If your pet’s microchip is not ISO compliant, you must bring a microchip reader or contact the port’s Veterinary Officials to verify if they have a capable microchip reader. The microchip number must also match the number on the Health Certificate.

 

 

Import License and Dog License

Your pet will need an import license from Singapore’s Animal and Veterinary Service 30 days before arrival in Singapore. Before leaving the United States dogs will need to apply for a dog license before they can apply for the import license.

Health Certificate from a USDA Accredited Veterinarian

Your pet must have a Health Certificate from a USDA accredited veterinarian. The local USDA APHIS Veterinary Services must endorse and sign your pet’s Health Certificate. Your pet’s health certificate is valid for 10 days. Your pet’s health certificate must be dated within 7 days from arrival in Singapore

Required Vaccinations

Your pet must have vaccinations from a USDA accredited veterinarian. These vaccinations are requirements when traveling from the United States to Singapore and may be different when coming back, it is important to keep track of variation in vaccinations when traveling. Your pet’s health certificate must include the following vaccinations:

Required Vaccinations for Dogs:

  • Rabies: at least 4 months before the travel date. And one month after vaccination and within 6 months from travel, your pet must have a blood sample tested for acceptable rabies antibody levels.
  • Canine distemper virus: not less than 14 days from travel
  • Infectious canine hepatitis: not less than 14 days from travel
  • Canine parvoviral infection: not less than 14 days travel

Required Vaccinations for Cats:

  • Rabies: at least 4 months before the travel date. And one month after vaccination and within 6 months from travel, your pet must have a blood sample tested for acceptable rabies antibody levels.
  • Feline panleukopaenia: not less than 14 days from travel
  • Feline Calicivirus: not less than 14 days from travel
  • Feline viral rhinotracheitis: not less than 14 days from travel

Parasite Treatments

Within 2-7 days before travel, your pet must be treated and documented on their health certificate for external and internal parasite treatments.

Residence Certificate

Your pet must also have a residence certificate as part of the health certificate stating that your pet has had a continuous residence for at least six months before export.

Notification of Arrival

You need to submit an online booking request at AVA’s Intelligent Food Approval and Safety Tracking System (iFAST) at least 5 working days before your pet’s arrival in Singapore.

Quarantine

Your pet must be quarantined at the Sembawang Animal Quarantine Station for 10 to 30 days to meet the rabies control requirements upon arrival. You will need to request space from the quarantine station before your pet’s arrival.
